Paper Love!

“Letter writing is the only device for combining solitude with good company”.  —  Lord Byron

Gone are the days, for most of us, where we sit down with a fresh sheet of paper, a diary or notebook, and handwrite a note, or letter – and I think that’s sad.  As someone who could, quite literally, spend all day in a book store (and not just for the books), I miss ‘old school’ stationery.

One of my most treasured possessions is a box, full to the brim of handwritten letters from school friends and family, most of which are 15+ years old, and are so precious to me.  Going through, and reading those letters, brings back such wonderful memories.  Today, going through old ‘letters’, means scrolling through messages in various inboxes, or social media pages – it’s just not the same.

Sometimes it’s nice to put aside technology, and get back to the basics of communication – pen and paper – and this is true for many kids too!  Pick up a pen yourself, and encourage children to write, and draw as often as you can – imagine schools one day utilising only computers, instead of pencil and paper (and believe me, we are heading that way – and quickly).  I have wondered whether the future for our children, will mean typing and texting replaces writing completely!

So I’ve decided to highlight some of my favourite ‘paper’ products, and the delightful stores that sell them, in an attempt to remind people just how lovely (and important) these ‘basics’ are.
