My Favourite Online Design Stores

I love taking a bare space, or neutral area and ‘prettying it up’.  I always have.  I’m not an interior designer, or a stylist, I just really appreciate  beautiful design, colour, and personality in a home.  I am a total home-body (a near hermit some would say).  I’m a ‘nester’, I love pottering around my house, changing things around, making spaces ‘feel good’ to be in.

My man and I have been renting houses for the last 12 years – absolute dives most of the time, you wouldn’t believe some of the ‘houses’ we’ve lived in.  So I’ve never had the opportunity to really decorate a home the way I would like – reflecting my own style.  Believe me, it’s really hard matching any of your own furniture, to a house with brown floral carpet, brown and yellow peeling wallpaper, and fake wood panelling on every available surface!!  I even remember living in one house that had brown and orange lino on the walls in the bathroom, and orange velcro-like, carpet squares throughout the rest of the hosue, that was impossible to vacuum so I had to sweep them!?!

DIG AND LOVE

So you can understand my utter joy at finally living in a home that I have the option of decorating in whatever way I choose.  Thankfully…. there’s no fake wood panelling, brown lino, or orange velcro-like carpet in sight!  I have a blank canvas to work on at the moment –  a ‘not quite finished’ wee house, with white walls throughout, and I’m pretty excited about it!

I’m constantly on the look out for ideas to decorate the bare white walls, and rooms.  I spend many an hour window shopping through design stores online (we live semi-rural, so online shopping works better more often than not), mentally compiling a wishlist of things I’d like to fill my home with.

I’ve picked up the odd little piece here and there, a gorgeous cushion from Lorna Love, Speech Bubble Chalkboard from Chalkd, a Leeann Yare Wide Yellow Ceramic Canister from Iko Iko, a ‘Far Out’ bunting from Matchbox Studios, and 4 lovely Mocka stools for my son’s room to name a few.

The reality is, I have so far to go to achieve the styled home I dream of…. and I have a TIGHT budget, so it’s going to be a long time before I reach anything close to the finished product I dream of (if your home can ever truly be ‘finished’).  But along the way, I will continue to keep an eye out for new and exciting products from my favourite stores, no doubt my wishlist will change and evolve, and where I can, I’ll save up and keep on collecting!

So I thought I’d share with you my favourite online design stores, that I visit often (in no particular order!).  I know many of these stores stock much more than just homeware, but for this post I am focussing on products that fall into that category.
