Tell us a little about your blog.
dorothy nada is a small lifestyle blog about being a mum, a military wife, striving for a beautiful home and anything else my leapfrog mind comes up with!

What is the story behind how you came to be a blogger?
I was running my online home-wares business, but always loved writing so figured I’d add blogging to my already hectic schedule of things to do. It quickly became pretty much my favourite part of the business, so I’ve spent the last wee while looking into focusing just on that.

Where do you go or what do you do to get inspiration for your blog?
I write about whatever is ‘on top’ for me at the time – I’ll be having conversations with friends and think ‘I should blog about this’, or be listening to the radio or ranting at the children and think that SURELY, other people are dealing with the same things I am…so I write about it.

What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learnt and how has it shaped you?
To strive for balance. I was running two online stores, writing the blog and dealing with the children and miscellaneous tasks that come along with being a stay-at-home mum and I was just exhausted all the time. I’m learning to say no, to take time when I need it and to put me and my family first. 🙂

What one piece of advice would you give to new bloggers?
Find your own voice.. If you write as yourself, people will want to get to know you. Blogging is about relationships! Relationships with your readers, and with other bloggers. It’s a pretty fantastic, supportive community!

Name some of the bloggers that you look up to and why?
SO many! A few fav NZ bloggers:
Mel Chesneau from Styled Canvas
Meagan Kerr from This is Meagan Kerr
Melissa Jack from The Best Nest
Kelly Evans from Home Style

They are all inspirational for different reasons – fantastic writers, amazing stylists, motivated, and SO supportive of smaller, less experienced bloggers. They have all helped me in different ways and I’m so appreciative to them

About You:

What do you think about when you are alone in your car?
I’m not often alone in the car, but when I am the music is cranked and I’m screeching along to the lyrics. 🙂

What song is your personal anthem?
Diamonds are a girl’s best friend ;-P

If we came to your house for dinner, what would you prepare for us?
I’m not a very adventurous cook, so it would probably be a roast. I love a good roast!

In the movie of your life, who would play you?
I just asked my husband because I was totally stumped on this one. He said Anne Hathaway. He probably nailed it…she’s a bit gawky and awkward just like me, and we both have dark hair. Of course, she’s gorgeous and tall and I’m not, but we won’t quibble over the details!

Where is your happy place, and why?
A book shop! I love looking through all the shelves and finding new and exciting books to browse through. It’s a bit torturous too – kind of what I imagine going to the pet shop is like for other people….I just want to take them all home with me!

How would you describe your personal style?
For me? Clothes-wise? I don’t know – I’m more of a ‘throw it all on and hope for the best’ kind of dresser. I still find it hard to dress for my post-2-baby self and to deal with the lumps and bumps.

For the house though – I’m pretty confident in my style choices around the house. I’ve blogged about the idea that our house is in a transition state – we’ve still got furniture that we bought or inherited when we were first living together, and other pieces that we’ve bought since so one day I’ll have everything just the way I want it. I’m not afraid to try different decor ideas, and when my husband goes away for work he usually comes home to find something different.

What is the last thing that made you say ‘wow’?
A few days ago our 6 year old rescued his 4 year old brother – Mr 4 had pulled on his tallboy, causing it to topple. Mr 6 ran in, held up the drawers and told Mr 4 to run and get Dad. His quick thinking and bravery really blew me away!

What is your wish for the future?
I hope that when I’m an old woman I can look back on a happy life filled with children and grandchildren and feel satisfied and proud. What more could you ask?
