Five Reasons to Start CrossFit

| December 9, 2014 | 0 Comments

Over the past year I have watched a friend of mine post up on Facebook, all about her CrossFit sessions.  I have listened to her change from pushing herself to go, to then becoming an addict.  I heard her talk about how amazing her body has become and seen the friendships she has made (yes, all from my computer!).  A few times she said to just ‘DO IT!’, ‘just start and you won’t regret it’. I was listening.

About six weeks ago CrossFit Helensville opened a FitMum class, which meant I could take my little ratbags along with me (no excuses now).  So, I DID IT!  I started and after six weeks I certainly haven’t regretted it.  I actually love it!  Now I am thinking, twice a week just isn’t enough  … who would have thought it! I did a short stint of exercise at a gym in my early twenties but other than that I have never exercised.  Nearly two decades of neglect but that is all going to change.

Yes, that is me doing my press ups with the assistance of some giant rubber bands. I can actually do press ups by myself now ... well, a few

Here are just 5 reasons to start CrossFit from a complete novice:

  1. You met some awesome people that all support and cheer you on.  You aren’t running on a treadmill for an hour alone, you workout together, you encourage each other, you motivate each other.
  2. You push yourself!  Yes, we all work out together but ultimately you are competing against yourself.  It doesn’t matter if you are first or last, what matters is if you are doing better than last time.  You get such a buzz knowing you are lifting bigger weights or jumping higher or running faster.
  3. You just won’t believe what you can achieve!  Nearly every time I arrive and see the WOD (workouts) on the blackboard I think I will never finish it or will die in the process, but EVERY TIME I finish it and the feeling afterwards is what you get hooked on.
  4. You get to watch your body change into something strong and amazing.  Yes, after just six weeks, I can see a change in my body.  My arms are starting to stop waving people goodbye when I move them.  They are becoming more defined and strong.  At the end of the day I don’t really care what my body looks like, what I want is to feel strong, fit and healthy.
  5. You will WANT to go!  Yes, I can safely say that I don’t want to miss my sessions now.  Only six weeks in and I am hooked and what a great thing to get hooked on to.  Along with wanting to go, I am wanting to eat better and I am drinking lots more water.  I am at the start of FINALLY having a healthy way of life.  I always said ‘One day I will …’ get fit, eat better, look better, get tone etc but that ‘one day’ has come and gone and I am DOING IT!

Only thing to do is … Get started people!!!!

Here are two fabulous CrossFit places to contact if you are keen to find out more … links to their Facebook pages … CrossFit Takapuna or CrossFit Helensville
