Interior Style Guru – Vic Bibby

Vic Bibby – Founder of Cush and Nooks.

Vic Bibby, the woman behind the fabulous ‘Cush and Nooks’, has always been creative, and has spent most of her working life as a graphic designer. After the birth of her three daughters in two years (the youngest two are identical twins), she started working from home, trying to achieve the elusive balance between motherhood and career.

Once her twins reached Kindy age Vic went back to work part time in a design agency, but found her passion for the corporate advertising world was dwindling. Her ‘aha’ moment came when she was asked to come up with some ideas for decorating the interior of the design studio and offices. She felt that spark and excitement again, this is what she wanted to do.

As a creative outlet she started a blog – cushandnooks.blogspot.co.nz. A place to collate all the things that inspired her – mostly interiors, beautiful homes, stylists she loved, art, fashion, photography, typography… In the beginning the blog was something for herself, but as it grew she was amazed and humbled that others were drawing inspiration from it too.

The blog also unearthed Vic’s love of writing, and she is very lucky to be able to combine this with her love of interiors when she writes articles for Homestyle magazine and Napier Life magazine. She’s always on the look out for new and inspiring homes to feature.

The world of blogging had opened up a whole new world for Vic. But after falling in love with a lot of gorgeous furniture, textiles  and products she’d seen online, she was frustrated at not being able to find them in New Zealand. And so Cush & Nooks the online shop was born. In it Vic stocks products that she wants in her own home. Like her home, the products are ever evolving and changing, depending on what’s inspiring her at the time.

Vic believes in surrounding yourself with things that make you happy. She loves nothing more than a home with personality and soul. “Don’t worry about following trends, if you buy things you love, that move you in some way, it will work”. A home is like a book, telling a story about the people that live there. If you haven’t already, make sure you check out her blog for tips and inspiration.

The Quick Fire Interview Questions:

1. What, Who or Where do you draw inspiration from?

I draw inspiration from everything around me – nature, fashion, books, movies. But I am most inspired by other talented women. People who have made a career out of doing what they are most passionate about. Stylists Emily Henderson, Lili Diallo, Paulina Arcklin; Interior Designers Anna Spiro, Sibelle Court; artists Miranda Skoczek, Rachel Castle, Evie Kemp, Claire Desjardins; Louise Bell from Table Tonic, Kellie Collis from Ada & Darcy…. just to name a few!

2. Which person do you really rely on for support and encouragement in life?

I find it hard to pick just one person. I am blessed to be surrounded by an amazing network of family and friends, and they all help me in different ways.

3. What are you most grateful for?

For three beautiful, healthy daughters, a great husband, and this gorgeous country we live in.

4. How would you describe yourself in five words?

Positive • caring • loyal • focused • easy-going

5. What do you LOVE?

I love the simple things in life – a glass of bubbles with friends • going for a run with my dog in the peaceful early morning • a good book • fresh sheets • family movie night • a cup of tea on the deck with my hubby • and of course, interiors with soul!
