Turning Turtle in Paradise

| September 25, 2012 | 0 Comments

When school’s out, Vomo’s family fun and games begin on this Pacific Island paradise.

When school closes Vomo Island’s Turtle Club opens, and that makes it the happiest place in the South Pacific. Because Vomo Island does family friendly like no other Fijian resort.

The Turtle Club is a 5 Star kids club that’ll bring any kid out of their shell and entertain them most of the day. They’ll learn hilarious or intricate Fijian games and discover how to feed fish. There are opportunities to excel at singing and different styles of art but perhaps it’s no surprise to learn crab-hunting turns out to be the most popular pastime of all. And then the Turtle Club not only arranges an early dinner but also provides a baby-sitting service into the night. Every child has the opportunity to learn about Vomo’s Turtle Awareness Programme, which helps protect the Hawksbill Turtle’s traditional breeding grounds and shows how these huge creatures can be saved from extinction. Vomo is a breeding ground for Hawksbill turtles and eggs laid on the island are protected from predators until they hatch and are then cared for by Vomo staff until their natural defences are such that they are able to be released into the ocean.

Broadly, The Turtle Club is open during the variable Australasian school holidays: that means all of April, about six weeks June – July; about four weeks September – October and almost all of December and January.

Turtle Club dates
31 Mar – 30 Apr; 23 Jun – 23 Jul; 22 Sept – 22 Oct; 14 Dec – 13 Jan

Yet Vomo isn’t just about kids. With them taken care of so superbly, parents are totally free to discover the full range of entertainment and sports facilities of a luxury 5 star resort island, a paradise bordered by white sands and spectacular coral reefs.

The waters are perfect for safe snorkelling, so you may leisurely explore the myriad kaleidoscope of reef fish. If swimming is not your family thing, then the marvels are revealed in glass-bottom kayaks, available for guests use. There’s truly fantastic kayaking inside the coral reef, or if you hanker for rather more of a challenge, deep-sea fishing is easily arranged.

Adventure and activity doesn’t happen only on the blue waters of the South Pacific. For families that enjoy exercise together there are hiking and jogging tracks. There’s a well-appointed gym, golf, badminton, tennis, croquet and petanque. And for that indulgent holiday combination of body, soul and self , there’s a luxurious day spa with professional staff who love to help you relax and go back home looking your best ever.

The daily-changing a la carte menu in the Reef Restaurant tempts you with local produce prepared in a fusion of local and contemporary cooking methods. Vomo’s cuisine has been rated one of the Pacific’s best and is prepared with great skill for your dining pleasure. There are weekly traditional Meke dances, Lovo pit-oven feasting and traditional Kava ceremonies also to be enjoyed.

While the kids are eating you’ll want to slip away to the Rocks Bar for canapés and cocktails as you watch Fiji’s best sunset. See? There’s no contest. Vomo Island does family friendly like no other Fijian resort.
