Villa Maria – The Sparkle of Summer All Year Round

There are some tastes of summer that you wish could last all year; sun-ripened berries, freshly caught seafood cooked on the BBQ and a chilled glass of pink rose.

Delivering a fresh, bright taste of red berries and a touch of spice on the nose, Villa Maria Lightly Sparkling Rose offers a glass of summer just in time for winter.

A sparkling style of wine new to New Zealand, it’s made like a traditional rose but injected with bubbles just before bottling.  The screw cap closure means unlike other types of cork-sealed bubbly, the bottle doesn’t need to be finished all at once.

Auckland winemaker Dave Roper from Villa Maria says sparkling wines such a Prosecco are currently big in Europe, seeing strong growth as Champagne sales lose their fizz*.

“Globally people are moving away from drinking Champagne on special occasions to enjoying less expensive bubbly as an everyday aperitif.

“We think Kiwis are also wanting for a regular taste of what Italians call the good life.  And what could be closer to la dolce vita than sipping on a chilled glass of delicately sparkling rose after work and in the weekend with friends.”

Villa Maria Lightly Sparkling Rose lands in supermarkets and liquor stores from March 2014.  RRP from $14

*Prosecco sales enjoyed a record year in 2013, with global sales up 30% by volume and Italian sparkling wine sales in general up by 18% .  Champagne sales are declining globally, the total number of bottles shipped in 2013 declining by five million, following a 14.2m decline in 2012.
