Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion – Book Review and Give Away.

| April 4, 2013 | 36 Comments

Zombie Romance??  Yes!  And I have 2 copies to give away.  See below for details.

Have you seen the film yet?  Warm Bodies, by Isaac Marion is now a major motion picture starring Nicholas Hoult, Teresa Palmer and John Malkovich.   Well whether you have, or you haven’t seen the big screen version, you must read this book.

Isaac Marion has written a much more interesting version, of the many ‘apocolyptic’ novels that abound today, and considering it is his first novel, I think he has tackled this ‘pop genre’ of zombies, vampires, warewolves, and the fragile human condition rather well.

This is, against all odds, a zombie romance novel, with a little black comedy thrown in, to make this a wonderful read, in my opinion.  I can see why a movie was made from this story.  The book is captivating from start to finish, with plenty of action, and drama, twists and turns, and some great characters.

Stephanie Myers, author of the Twilight series, said of this novel, ‘I never thought I could care so passionately for a zombie…the most unexpected romantic lead I’ve ever encountered’

‘R’ is a zombie. He has no name, no memories, and no pulse, but he has dreams. He is a little different from his fellow Dead. Amongst the ruins of an abandoned city, R meets a girl. Her name is Julie and she is the opposite of everything he knows – warm and bright and very much alive, she is a blast of colour in a dreary grey landscape. For reasons he can’t understand, R chooses to save Julie instead of eating her, and a tense yet strangely tender relationship begins. This has never happened before. It breaks the rules and defies logic, but R is no longer content with life in the grave. He wants to breathe again, he wants to live, and Julie wants to help him. But their grim, rotting world won’t be changed without a fight…

Isaac Marion was born in north-western Washington in 1981 and has lived in and around Seattle his whole life, working a variety of strange jobs like delivering deathbeds to hospice patients and supervising parental visits for foster-kids. He is not married, has no children, and did not go to college or win any prizes. Warm Bodies is his first novel.
